La influencia de las actitudes sobre el desempeño académico

Este artículo examina los factores que explican las diferencias de género en el rendimiento académico en 77 países. El estudio descompone la variación de la brecha de género en atributos observables y no observables. El artículo identifica que el gusto por la lectura y las expectativas sobre las futuras carreras profesionales son los principales factores que impulsan las brechas de género en el rendimiento académico. Estos factores son más relevantes para explicar la brecha en lectura, en la que las niñas obtienen puntajes superiores a los de los niños. En el caso contrario, en el que los niños obtienen puntajes superiores a las niñas, estos factores también son importantes, pero no bastan para explicar las brechas en matemáticas y ciencias.
